A Full Length Experimental Acrylic Painting Workshop Using Golden High Flow Paint and Yupo Paper

Are you the intrigued by experimental art? Does letting loose and letting things ‘flow’ excite and scare you at the same time? During this action packed and fun filled class we are going to create a variety of Inked up abstracts on an amazing surface which will allow you to add, subtract, draw, drip and more as you create one of a kind grungy abstract mixed media art pieces. Learn how to create compositions that begged to be touched and leave your viewer wondering ‘how did they do that?’!!!! The creative energy you will bring to class will literally assist in the act of ‘transformation’ each and every piece from one stage to another. Be ready for exhilarating exercises, bring your fearless artistic self, and come prepared for hours of grungy inky fun and creative experimentation! This class is for those who are fearless and love to experiment, or for those that want to be more adventurous in their art. We will be working on Yupo paper and incorporating a variety of acrylic inks, paints, India ink and tons of special effects to garner intriguing and luscious layers in our contemporary abstract works.

  • How long will I have access to this course?

    Access is open ended for this course, students can work at their own pace and as many times as they like for a minimum of 36 months from date of sign up.

  • Is this course downloadable?

    The videos are not downloadable. You may watch them at your leisure on our workshop website. There will be a downloadable supply list and a PDF to use during the course.

  • Why is this course a different price than other full length workshops?

    This course is one of our classic courses that was originally released in 2014. By popular demand, we have relaunched it at specialty bargain price. No content was removed, however it is now completely self study.

  • What type of support will I have?

    While this is a self study course, you can join our Facebook group to show your work or ask questions. Many members of our community can help you with basic questions. The instructor will pop in from time to time as well, however since we have significantly reduced the price-one on one assistance is not part of our plan.

  • What type of supplies will I need?

    A full supply list will be available upon purchase. Students will be working on Yupo paper using Golden High Flow Paints and some fluid paints.

  • What skill level is this class?

    This course walks students through all the steps to complete a variety of work in this medium. If you are a beginner, you will easily be able to follow along as long as you do all the lessons in full and practice other techniques on your own. More advanced students may benefit from this course as it is a relatively unique process using a less common surface. The possibilities are endless!

Students will work on several ink paintings, and assorted techniques to use in many mixed media applications. Some of our assignments will include graffiti style writing, landscapes, free expression abstracts and more. In fact you may want to buy extra pads of Yupo paper because once you start, it’ll be hard to start!

Instructor Jodi Ohl

Jodi Ohl is a best-selling author, award winning mixed media artist and creative instructor, originally from Dunkirk, NY, who now resides in Aberdeen, NC. Having left her day job in 2011 to pursue her artistic career full time, she has built a body of work that is known for its distinctive texture, bold color combinations which are often whimsical or abstract compositions, as well as motivational in nature. Her art appeals to those that seem to be young at heart and who appreciate the positive side of life whether communicated through words, colors, or composition. Published in over 36 international mixed media magazines such as Cloth Paper Scissors, Somerset Studios, Artful Blogging, Artful Journaling, Somerset Holidays and Celebrations, and Cloth Paper Scissors Studios, Acrylic Artist, as well as a contributor to 7 mixed media books. For three years in a row, Jodi’s paintings have been featured in the curated books featuring the best of mixed media, “Incite 2,3 and 4”. In 2016, Jodi had the distinct honor of being the featured artist in Somerset Studio magazine’s Nov/Dec issue has been a regular guest columnist for Cloth Paper Scissors over 9 years. Jodi enjoys writing about her art and sharing the love of healing and motivation through creativity. She is represented by regional galleries in North Carolina and several others along the East Coast. In addition, Jodi is a popular mixed media art teacher online and in person, teaching at both large and small local and national workshops around the US. When not painting, she enjoys time with her two sons, Joshua and Zachary as well as other friends and family. Jodi’s first book “Abstracts in Acrylic and Ink”was recently released by North Light Books and is currently working on her second publication due out in the near future. Combining her approachable teaching and writing style, Abstract in Acrylic and Ink, is much like having a seat next to the artist at one of her popular workshops.
